Morning Edition’s Cathy Wurzer interviews Annette Atkins, history professor at the College of St. Benedict and St. John's University, who provides a history primer of the Split Rock Lighthouse.
The Split Rock Lighthouse was built in 1910 in response to the great loss of ships during the famous Mataafa Storm of 1905. It was decommissioned in 1969. The lighthouse, which sits on the bluffs of Lake Superior, went through restoration and now attracts a multitude of visitors each year.
