November 30, 1967 - Minnesota Senator Eugene J. McCarthy announces he will challenge President Lyndon B. Johnson for the 1968 Democratic nomination for president.
May 1, 1972 - MPR’s Dulcie Lawrence takes the day to visit the Lyndale Farmer’s Market. Lawrence talks with both vendors and customers to get a sense of this harbinger of spring for those in the Twin Cities.
June 12, 1972 - Jack Baker comments about similar goals of the state convention Women's Caucus and the Gay Rights Caucus. Baker states Women's Caucus is essentially tearing down and rejecting male chauvinism, and so is the Gay Rights Caucus.
October 3, 1972 - MPR’s Greg Barron interviews Edwin Caffrey, director of public affairs at Metropolitan Airports Commission, about the Minnesota Airport Commission vote to request the federal aviation administration to grant the variants to the annual amount of money made available to the MAC for airport purposes.
October 3, 1972 - Ken Simons, planning coordinator for the Office of Open Space Planning, speaks about the 1972 acquisition of 3,000 acres of land to protect unique systems such as flood plains, ground water tables, recreation, amenities, or pleasing vistas to offset development. A corridor of open space is the plan for the acquisition of land along Rice Creek area in Ramsey County.
December 25, 1972 - MER’s Connie Goldman gathers various opinions of downtown Minneapolis Library patrons and officials on homeless utilizing the library. The use of facility by homeless many times is not to read, but rather to find a public refuge from the outdoor elements. It is not a desired situation for anyone involved, but homeless individuals find few options available in the city.
June 18, 1973 - MER’s Hugh Morgan reports that The International Joint Commission proposes using Lake Superior as a reservoir to control unusually high water in the other Great Lakes: Michigan, Erie and Huron.
August 10, 1973 - MER’s Greg Barron reports on Reserve Mining trial, where issues of asbestos from dumping tailings into Lake Superior are being argued. Dr. Donald Baumgartner, an engineer for the Environmental Protection Agency, testified for the state using a taconite settling study that shows particles can carry great distances in Lake Superior. Reserve Mining claims taconite is carried to a 600 foot "Great Trench."
November 8, 1974 - MPR’s Dick Daly reports a hearing on lake water use held in Duluth. All the Great Lakes have had too much water in recent years and high water and strong winds have eroded shorelines and caused flooding. Lake Superior water levels are held artificially high by the IJC, a US joint commission with Canada.
November 11, 1975 - With the sinking of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald the day prior during a gale storm on Lake Superior, MPR’s Dick Daly interviews Dr. Julius Wolff, a maritime historian at University of Minnesota Duluth, about the dangerous history of shipping on the massive lake in November.
