May 6, 1996 - One year ago, attornies settled a big Minneapolis housing discrimination lawsuit with an agreement to move hundreds of residents out of delapidated public housing and find homes for many of them in the suburbs. So far, only one suburb has agreed to participate. The settlement is called the Holman Decree - it's named after one of the families who brought the suit against the federal government and the city. The suit says public agencies created and perpetuated public housing discrimination in Minneapolis based on race for over forty years.
May 2, 1996 - Four of Minneapolis ' poorest neighborhoods will have 150 new or rehabilitated homes in a few years. One of the new homes was dedicated today in Minneapolis ' Central neighborhood . Money for the project comes from companies and foundations. The money is being matched with the know-how of public and non-profit home building agencies who have been struggling to rehabilitate housing in poor neighborhoods. Supporters see the collaboration as a way to build and repair houses faster by linking groups who usually operate independent of one another.

April 2, 1996 - Ramsey county commissioners had no comment this afternoon after a closed door meeting to discuss a judge's ruling striking down the county's trash hauling ordinance. Federal Judge David Doty says Hennepin and Ramsey do not have the right to control the flow of garbage in their counties. The decision may force the counties to charge less for garbage brought to their huge incinerators. And the people who brought the suit challenging the laws want the counties to pay back some of the money charged for garbage hauling.
