In what it calls a proactive move, St Paul's Penumbra Theatre has trimmed it's 3.8 million dollar budget by almost a quarter.
The nation's largest professional African American theater is also postponing it's final production of the current season until the 2009-2010 season. Penumbra Artistic director Lou Bellamy says the theater is preserving its important programs.
SPEAKER: What we've attempted to do is keep all of the important programs. We have not laid off staff. So we are still going to be doing the art that we should be doing in the way we should be doing it, supported by all of the educational programs that are so much a part of who we are. We're keeping New play development. But we have moved one show that was going to finish this season into the first show of next season.
