For many followers of the "roots rock" or "Americana" music scene, The Jayhawks were country before country was cool. With their sweeping lyrics, pure harmonies and twangy melodies, the band drew almost unanimous praise from critics and their peers. When co-singer and songwriter Mark Olson left the band to pursue a solo career, The Jayhawks reached a crossroads. Should they break up, or continue, minus one of their primary figures?
