MPR’s Martin Granger interviews author Benjamin Spock about his writing and political criticism of him.
Spock refutes claim that he promoted instant gratification in his book “Dr. Spock's Baby and Child Care” and in his child rearing philosophy but does promote less rigid practices that he believed was becoming prevalent. While he promotes discipline over bewildered flexibility, Spock also states love, and not necessarily discipline, creates confidence in children. Spiro T. Agnew and Norman Peel are said to attack the author.
