May 14, 2003 - MPR’s Nikki Tundel speaks with Erich Mische, the state director for U.S. Senator Norm Coleman, about a St. Paul high school student facing deportation. Tchisou Tho was scheduled for deportation just 22 days before he would have become the first in his family to graduate from high school, but won a delay that will allow him to graduate with his classmates in June.
May 13, 2003 - Getting into the University of Minnesota isn't as easy as it used to be. A significant increase in applicants is forcing the school to reject students who would have been accepted in years past. Wayne Sigler is the Director of Admissions at the U's Twin Cities campus. Sigler says more students are applying at state universities because the tough economy has made it difficult for families to afford private colleges. He says applications for this fall's freshman class are more than triple the school's target enrollment of fifty-two hundred.
April 24, 2003 - People mostly know the Vikings who raided Europe and North America a thousand years ago as aggressive warriors. Visitors to the Viking exhibit at the Science Museum of Minnesota may be surprised then to learn that at home these warriors shared power with their wives. Elisabeth Ward is the assistant curator of the exhibit and is an expert on the lives of Viking women. Ward says Viking women held broad leadership roles in Viking society
