Getting into the University of Minnesota isn't as easy as it used to be. A significant increase in applicants is forcing the school to reject students who would have been accepted in years past. Wayne Sigler is the Director of Admissions at the U's Twin Cities campus. Sigler says more students are applying at state universities because the tough economy has made it difficult for families to afford private colleges. He says applications for this fall's freshman class are more than triple the school's target enrollment of fifty-two hundred.
