January 1, 1991 - MPR’s Catherine Winter reports on Minnesota Civil Liberties Union call for expanding Human Rights Act by including gay rights. Winter gets opposing views on subject from William Roath, executive director of Minnesota Civil Liberties Union; and Tom Prichard, executive director of Berean League.
January 7, 1991 - MPR’s Tom Fudge interviews Brian Coyle, the first openly gay Minneapolis City Councilmember, about domestic partner benefits that local government is considering.
February 16, 1991 - MPR’s Chris Roberts reports on local Black Teens for Advancement (BTA) protest in the St. Paul skyways. Roberts speaks with numerous young protestors, who share stories of discrimination when using skyways.
March 23, 1991 - MPR’s Chris Roberts reports on the Governor's Task Force on Lesbian and Gay Minnesotans and their recommendations in a report on Minnesota gay quality of life, which determined that gays and lesbians are targets of widespread discrimination. Report includes comments from members of task force.
March 23, 1991 - A sixteen member task force was charged with examining the quality of life of Minnesota gays and lesbians and, if necessary, recommend ways to improve it.
July 26, 1991 - MPR’s Gary Eichten talks with a women’s rights activist about Brother Peace program, who details St. Cloud rally to fight against various forms of abuse by men on women and children. Conversation focuses on need for men to be active in standing up against men who harass, control, and foster inequality.
August 26, 1991 - A proposed ballot question for an election in St. Paul reads: Shall sections of the human rights law be repealed to permit discrimination in education, employment, housing and use of public places due to sexual and affectional orientation?
