February 1, 1989 - MPR’s Chris Tetlin reports on a proposal to start an Indian public school district in the Twin Cities. There is debate on if it would offer a better education opportunity and experience for Native students or simply a form of segregation.
April 3, 1989 - MPR’s Jim Bickal checks in with Minnesota Twins players to get their take of what the 1989 Major League Baseball season may hold for the team. There is positive outlook and hopes that season will start well…as opposed to the slow start in 1988, which cost team later.
May 15, 1989 - Mainstreet Radio’s Rachel Reabe interviews Milton Raske, a resident of Pillager, Minnesota, on his astrological gardening system. He has been planting vegetables for decades based on astrological signs. Agricultural officials do not support moon planting as it is not supported by science, but that doesn’t stop Raske.
November 7, 1989 - As part of the Mainstreet Radio series “Rural Health Care,” John Biewen looks at the struggle to get doctors in rural Minnesota. Biewen interviews numerous medical professionals about the issue.
November 8, 1989 - As part of the Mainstreet Radio series “Rural Health Care,” Rachel Raebe visits Browerville, Minnesota to see how town is coping after losing its hospital. Only an empty building remains.
November 9, 1989 - As part of the Mainstreet Radio series “Rural Health Care,” Leif Enger reports on how rural health administration officials have found creative ways in bringing in money with non-traditional duties.
November 10, 1989 - As part of the Mainstreet Radio series “Rural Health Care,” John Biewen reports from Mankato’s Immanuel Saint Joseph's Hospital, a regional hospital that is used as a resource to surrounding rural communities without local hospital specialty options. Biewen also looks at Mankato physicians traveling into rural areas.
March 20, 1990 - MPR’s Chris Roberts reports on efforts by the Minnesota Twins organization to get ready for the start of 1990 Major League Baseball season, after losing spring training and Opening Day to a 32 day lockout.
June 12, 1990 - MPR’s Karen Boros interviews Arne Carlson, Minnesota’s state auditor, about his gubernatorial candidacy. The IR gubernatorial candidate says he is not seeking party endorsement to avoid being tied down by what he sees as far right policies and platforms that will alienate the greater electorate.
September 24, 1990 - Mainstreet Radio’s Leif Enger profiles the St. Cloud baseball team The Rox, which in 1946 became part of the old Northern League that stretched from Wisconsin to Manitoba. The team dissolved in 1971, but Enger finds many locals still have fond memories.
