Many farmers are facing tough times due to low prices, and it's frequently referred to as a "crisis" but is it a DISASTER? Today in Mankato, the State Emergency Board of the US Department of Agriculture met to determine if the troubled farm economy qualifies as a disaster, making farmers eligible for the same kind of assistance they might get after a natural disaster. It's an approach that hasn't been tried before.
In 2008, Minnesota's voters passed the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment to the Minnesota Constitution: to protect drinking water sources; to protect, enhance, and restore wetlands, prairies, forests, and fish, game, and wildlife habitat; to preserve arts and cultural heritage; to support parks and trails; and to protect, enhance, and restore lakes, rivers, streams, and groundwater.
