SPEAKER: The board of directors of the Baptist Hospital voted two to oust Clyde Bellecourt saying that other residents of the town were afraid to be admitted. At the same time, Mr. Bellecourt's physician, Dr. Marion Cosand, a staff doctor at the hospital, said that Bellecourt was in very critical condition and could not be moved. And if he was ousted from the hospital, Dr. Cosand said he would resign. And so at this point, it appears that Clyde Bellecourt will stay in the hospital.

The American Indian Movement has plans, however, to move him to Minneapolis on Labor Day on Monday if he is well enough to be flown there. In other developments, Senator Abourezk from South Dakota visited the hospital today and visited Clyde Bellecourt and visited as well, his mother. He expressed concern about the fact that his mother was in the same hospital with Mr. Bellecourt and met with members of the American Indian Movement.

There will be a meeting tonight between city officials and the American Indian Movement regarding the security around the hospital. Last night, Russell Means and Vernon Bellecourt were arrested under indictments from Custer South Dakota at the hospital and this caused hospital officials some concern. The tentative plans from the city officials are to provide their own security around the hospital and let the American Indian Movement remain inside the hospital providing security there.
