The first of a series of documentaries about the history of black radio. The first one is about the early days of radio, and such programs as "Beulah" and "Amos and Andy". Later in the hour, Urban Coalition President Yusef Mgeni will talk about black radio. He has twenty years' experience producing black radio programs. January 16, 1995 - MPR presents a special program in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Program presents a collection of various MLK Day speeches including Paul Wellstone, Sharon Sayles Belton, and Joe Kingman on behalf of Arne Carlson, at Concordia College. Also included is a Harry Belafonte speech at the MLK Holiday Breakfast, an interview with Yusef Mgeni, and Martin Luther King, Jr.’s "I Have a Dream" speech.
September 2, 1994 - Keith Ellison, attorney and community activist, speaks about the differences between 1992 murder of police officer Jerry Haaf and 1994 killing of officers Ron Ryan, Jr. and Timothy Jones by Guy Harvey Baker. David Ward, University of Minnesota criminology professor; Yusef Mgeni, president of Twin Cities Urban Coalition; and Don Davis, Brooklyn Police Chief also make comments.
