March 5, 2004 - The strike by Metro Transit bus drivers is now in day two. On day one, the work stoppage didn't produce the major traffic headaches that had been anticipated, but there was a big impact for some bus riders. Minnesota Public Radio's Toni Randolph reports. (The walk-out by bus drivers didn't stop classes at the Ronald M. Hubbs Center in St. Paul. Adult basic education and English language classes went on as usual yesterday.
February 27, 2004 - A delegation from the St. Paul is heading to Thailand today to visit the camp just north of Bangkok where thousands of Hmong refugees have been living for more than a decade. The group includes St. Paul Mayor Randy Kelly and other government officials, as well as representatives from human services agencies and the St. Paul Public Schools. Minnesota Public Radio's Toni Randolph reports.
January 21, 2004 - MPR’s Toni Randolph reports that local and state officials, refugee agencies, and Hmong community organizations have been trying to figure out how many refugees could end up in the Twin Cities. The Thai government says more than 15,000 refugees are living in the camp surrounding a Buddhist temple. They'll be eligible for the resettlement program, which is scheduled to begin screening refugees in mid-March of 2004.
December 23, 2003 - Organizers of the Winter Carnival in St. Paul are praying for a cold spell so they can finally begin construction on the what's supposed to be the centerpiece of next month's festivities -- the ice palace. Minnesota Public Radio's Toni Randolph reports.
December 18, 2003 - A Ramsey County judge has approved an order resolving the complaint about how much money the Grand Rapids-based Blandin Foundation should give to its home community. Minnesota Public Radio's Toni Randolph reports. The Blandin Foundation must now set aside at least 55 percent of its grants for the Grand Rapids area. The agreement, approved by District Judge Margaret Marrinan Wednesday, ends a long-running dispute over how the foundation should distribute its money. The chairman of the Blandin Foundation's board of trustees is Kenneth Lundgren. He says board members are pleased with the agreement.
