June 2, 1998 - There's a mix of glitz, glamour, and politics over the next few days as representatives of the nations seniors gather in Minneapolis. Astronaut Shannon Lucid and entertainer Debbie Reynolds are among the celebrities appearing at the American Association of Retired Persons' national convention running through Thursday. The AARP is the nation's leading organization for people 50 and older. Convention organizers say even though most of the seminars will focus on issues important to seniors, the event is inter-generational. Minnesota Public Radio's Todd Moe reports.

April 20, 1998 - Hundreds of students and faculty members at St. Olaf College are putting pressure on administrators to fully explain recently-announced cuts in academic programs and sports. A group of faculty at the four-year liberal arts college in Northfield says the changes will ensure St. Olaf's long-term success. But some students say they feel betrayed. Minnesota Public Radio's Todd Moe visited the campus and filed this report... St. Olaf Colleges' expenses are growing faster than it's revenues. The private school's tuition is 21-thousand dollars a year while it spends more than 30-thousand dollars annually per student. To reduce costs, a Dean's Council, composed of seven long-time

March 16, 1998 - There's the "Old Farmers' Almanac," "Almanac of American Politics," "Golf Almanac" and now: the "HARP Almanac." It's the brainchild of a Saint Paul couple Fred Schlomka and Sunita Staneslow that lists just about everything imaginable about harps -- from concerts, performers and music, to carved music stands and harp insurance . As Minnesota Public Radio's Todd Moe reports, this new harpists "Who's Who" could make Saint Paul the hub of the harp world.
March 2, 1998 - President Clinton says he'd like to see more more college students become "guardian angels" to low-income youngsters. It's part of his efforts to encourage students to attend college. A number of colleges and universities in Minnesota have had mentor/tutor programs in place for years. As Minnesota Public Radio's Todd Moe reports, such programs are proving to be beneficial for both the pupils and their college mentors.
February 20, 1998 - Indictments have been issued in a firebombing four years ago that killed five children in St. Paul. Investigators say the deadly apartment fire was the work of drug-trafficking gang members trying to intimidate the children's older brother. Minnesota Public Radio's Todd Moe reports.
