November 25, 1999 - For the past few months, we've had a guest from German at Minnesota Public Radio. Torsten Teichmann, a journalist from Bavarian Public Radio. Torsten got a bit homesick during his visit, so we sent him to New Ulm, for the ultimate German experience in Minnesota.
October 4, 1999 - A new poll shows Governor Ventura's approval rating has dropped 19 percentage points since July. The Star Tribune poll was taken a few days after release of Ventura's interview with Playboy magazine where he called organized religion a sham and a crutch for weak minded people. The poll shows 54 percent of Minnesotans approve of Ventura's overall job performance, compared with 73 percent last summer. We asked two MPR commentators for their thoughts on the governor's comments. Ken Stewart is a Family Therapist in Roseville.

Operator should ride them, especially transitions from actualities to middle voice track.] The upper midwest's warm dry spring continues to cause concern about grass and forest fires. In northern Minnesota, forest fire crews have been on standby for weeks... newly planted seedlings may die without rain... and the summer construction season is in full swing a month ahead of schedule. This is one of the driest springs in ten years for northern Wisconsin, where strict fire restrictions are in place. Minnesota Public Radio's Todd Moe has the first of several reports on the effects of the dry weather around the region.

April 20, 1998 - The fastest growing chruches in the country today are affiliated not by denomination, but by size. So called, "MEGA CHURCHES" describe congregations numbering in the thousands. Some are housed in huge complexes that resemble business centers more than churces. These congregations are largely evangelical and suburban without many of the trapping of tradition and liturgy. Critics call them 'shopping mall' churches but even some mainline denominations are taking note, wondering what they can learn from the mega church movement. Mary Stucky reports...
April 15, 1998 - Baden = BAY dun As the ice goes out on Lake Mille Lacs in central Minnesota, a new fishing season begins... this year, Indian netters and spearfishers from the Mille Lacs band of Ojibwe will be out harvesting the fish guaranteed them, under a treaty with the U.S. government. MPR's Mainstreet radio team is taking a look all this week, at treaty rights and other ways tribal sovereignty affects Native Americans. Today, commentator Jim Baden, publisher of the Mille Lacs Messenger, predicts that spearfishing season will come and go for the locals - it's the 'outsiders' who will make it a big deal.
