June 11, 2002 - While the bailout of the airline industry after September 11th received a lot of attention, there is another less-publicized program that has been helping smaller business that suffered because of the terrorist attacks. The Small Business Administration has been making low interest loans to businesses across the country that can prove they were directly affected by the attacks. So far 62 small businesses in Minnesota have received nearly six million dollars through the program. Hector Barretto is the National Administrator of the Small Business Administration. He's in the Twin Cities today for the annual meeting of the Metropolitan Economic Development Association and he's come by the studio this morning. June 11, 2002 - Governor Jesse Ventura has just finished a meeting with high-level Chinese officials to discuss the future of trade relations between Minnesota and China. The meeting comes on Ventura's third day in China where he's on a week-long mission to promote Minnesota products and services. Earlier in the day Ventura toured a Hormel processing plant and held it up as a success story. MPR's Michael Khoo is on the road with the governor and he joins us now from Beijing. June 7, 2002 - Morning Edition’s Cathy Wurzer visited the Ventura ranch in Maple Grove and spoke with Terry Ventura in the barn where she runs a horse training and breeding business. She says she has learned a great deal since her husband was elected governor in 1998. Mrs. Ventura says it has taken her quite some time to get comfortable with her role as Minnesota's First Lady.
June 6, 2002 - The National Trust for Historic Preservation has named the Guthrie Theater to its 2002 list of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. The Walker Art Center, which owns the Guthrie's current performing space, wants to demolish it if the theatre moves to a new complex along the riverfront in downtown Minneapolis. Plans for the new complex hit a setback when Governor Jesse Ventura vetoed 24 million dollars in state money designated for the project. June 5, 2002 - Morning Edition’s Cathy Wurzer talks with local sports analyst LaVelle Neal about Minnesota Twins game the previous night, where the team crushed the Cleveland Indians 23-2 at the Metrodome. It was the biggest margin of victory in team history. The Twins also set a team record by collecting 25 hits.
June 3, 2002 - It has been a busy weekend for firefighters in Minnesota as they battle a number of wildfires. A fire southwest of Brainerd is about 80 percent contained.
