An increasing number of Americans are returning to the tradition of cutting their own Christmas tree... But as Minnesota Public Radio's Hope Deutscher reports this surge in sales comes as many Christmas tree growers are getting out of the business... September 1, 1998 - The effects of the Northwest Airlines pilots striking are starting to bite at regional airports. As Minnesota Public Radio's Hope Deutscher reports - at the Hector International Airport in Fargo, businesses have sent dozens of employees home. (sound of United Express plane purring along) Passangers are still landing three times a day at the Hector International Airport in Fargo...when the United Express plane from Chicago arrives. Nine Northwest flights usually land each day - bringing in about 16-hundred passengers...the three United Express flights bring less than 200 passengers daily.
June 9, 1998 - U-S Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman visited Minnesota and North Dakota Monday offering emotional support and announcing changes to farm programs in hopes of helping struggling upper Midwestern farmers. March 27, 1998 - The recovery from last spring's flooding is going faster in Breckenridge, Minnesota, than anywhere else in the Red River Valley. Dikes already line the river banks of two rivers in the city. The Army Corps of Engineers is studying the city's need for further dike protection.
