Also, Carl Anderson on his experiences in World War II and singing on an Armed Forces Christmas Eve NBC broadcast in 1941.
December 14, 2000 - Next winter's natural gas costs might be lower. But until then, analysts predict, homeowners and businesses will be hammered with high natural gas bills. The result for homeowners is already being seen in monthly bills more than fifty percent higher than last year's costs. Minnesota Public Radio's Dan Olson reports.
December 13, 2000 - More natural gas was found, but it won't be accessed until spring. It will provide more business and work. Right now, the fixed amount of natural gas makes the prices very high.
November 29, 2000 - A panel of Twin Cities mayors says the way to build more affordable housing is to find more money, reform zoning codes, and reduce government red tape. The findings are part of a report released today by the Metropolitan Council. Minnesota Public Radio's Dan Olson has more. {Minneapolis mayor Sharon Sayles Belton, the co-chair of the affordable housing panel says an obvious, if freuquently overlooked need, is for public officials to tell people to pay more attention to the problem.

November 15, 2000 - Smart Growth is the buzz phrase in vogue these days at the Metropolitan Council. Officials there use the expression to describe how the Twin Cities can accomodate more than half a million new residents expected in the next twenty years. The strategy turns on encouraging more people to live in areas already served by roads, sewers and schools. But a chorus of voices says the Met Council's plans are too restrictive and help drive up the cost of housing. Met Council chairman Ted Mondale addresses those issues today at the Midtown YWCA on Lake Street in Minneapolis at his state of the region message. Minnesota Public Radio's Dan Olson has a preview.
