The Governor began his day in Moorhead and by tomorrow will visit 12 Northwestern Minnesota cities to talk about flood relief, the state of agriculture, and business development.
December 22, 1999 - Law enforcement agencies around the region are targeting alcohol related offenses over the holidays. Fargo police and city leaders say alcohol abuse is such a pervasive problem it needs more than an occasional appearance in the spotlight. They are developing a long term comprehensive plan to change community attitudes toward alcohol.
November 29, 1999 - The World Trade Organization begins its Seattle round of trade talks tomorrow. The negotiations create the ground rules for global trade discussions over the next three to five years. Negotiators have been unable to even agree on an agenda for the talks. Agriculture is one of the top items on the agenda, and one of the most troublesome. The tough negotiations highlight the complexities of domestic and international agriculture policy.
November 18, 1999 - A three day ag summit in Fargo ended with farmers from the U-S and Canada reaching concensus on areas where they can work together, and demanding action from politicans. The more than 250 farmers from Minnesota, the Dakota, Manitoba and Saskatchewan also decided they will gather again in a year to see what has been accomplished.
November 17, 1999 - Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the United States. Criminals are using readily available personal information to steal billions of dollars, and make life miserable for hundreds of thousands of Americans. It's a crime that can be easy to commit, and very difficult to solve.
November 16, 1999 - Farmers from Minnesota and the Dakotas are meeting today in Fargo with their Canadian counterparts. Organizers say this "farm summit" conference is unusual because farmers will do the talking and politicians the listening.
November 12, 1999 - Concordia college in Moorhead is going into the coffee business in a big way. The college hopes to sell seven tons of African coffee beans to help support a girls school in Tanzania.
November 10, 1999 - A Former North Dakota Governor is starting an organization to protect people who's rights are violated by organized religion. George Sinner says he's concerned some religious bodies are willing to sacrifice individual rights to protect their own power and interests. The Council for the Rights of Church Members holds its first meeting tonight in Fargo.
November 8, 1999 - Much of northern Minnesota is struggling under the weight of the depressed farm economy. But the town of Warroad, located near the states northern tip, has long been buoyed by the presence of Marvin Windows and Doors. Now Marvin is struggling to overcome a product liability dispute that nearly dragged the company into bankruptcy.. The success of this effort matters ALOT to Warroads mainstreet businesses, for their vitality is directly tied to the success of the Marvin family.
