November 23, 2004 - Morning Edition’s Cathy Wurzer talks with Bob Kelleher about hunter shootings in Wisconsin. A probable cause hearing is expected in Hayward Wisconsin for 36-year-old Chai Vang, the St. Paul resident accused of opening fire on a party of hunters from Rice Lake, Wisconsin on November 21st, 2004. Six people are now dead and two are recovering from their wounds.
September 3, 2004 - MPR’s Bob Kelleher traces the individuals and movement that led to the U.S. 1964 Wilderness Act, creating the nation's system of federally protected wilderness. Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area was one of the first. Several Minnesotans played prominent roles, including then U.S. Senator Hubert Humphrey and a junior college administrator from Ely, named Sigurd Olson.

December 4, 2003 - Minnesota's Iron Mining Industry is disappointed with President Bush today. But some people involved in the state's manufacturing sector are pleased. President Bush announced today he's dropping tariffs on imported steel products. The President's decision averts a threatened trade war with the European Union. November 25, 2003 - Polar explorer Will Steger is preparing a quest across Northern Canada - a six month sled dog adventure that will bring the arctic into thousands of classrooms. Steger hasn't led a sled dog journey in five years, but says he came out of retirement concerned about global warming. Mainstreet Radio's Bob Kelleher reports:
November 14, 2003 - An 800-million dollar loan package earmarked for an electrical power plant on Minnesota's Iron Range has survived in the Federal Energy Bill. The loan package is one provision in a 17-hundred page bill that's expected to go before the U-S House and Senate next week. The bill also includes support for the region's ethanol industry. October 1, 2003 - Iron Rangers are excited about the prospects of a new multi-billion dollar power plant, proposed for Hoyt Lakes. The proposal is part of a controversial energy bill which includes a provision allowing arctic oil exploration. Minnesota's Republican U-S Senator, Norm Coleman, says he's tempted by the bill because it has many good things for Minnesota. Supporters say the project will create badly needed electricity for Minnesota and even more badly needed jobs for the Iron Range. The project's been quietly making headway since first proposed about two years ago. Mainstreet Radio's Bob Kelleher reports from Duluth.
