June 26, 1990 - Gays and lesbians in St. Paul have gone without legal protection from discrimination since 1978, when voters repealed homosexual rights legislation that had been in effect for four years. And though the new measure easily won the approval of a council majority the specter of that defeat was raised by council member Roger Goswitz’s lone dissent. The group Citizens Alert says it will collect the 5200 signatures needed to put the measure on a general election ballot, but may not do it this year.

April 20, 1990 - MPR’s Bill Wareham reports on the Minnesota Twins home opener in a year that has a strange feeling to it. The season is starting late due to player lockout and usually strong Twins slugging and fielding has been subpar. It is the first home opener since the Twins moved to Minnesota that has not sold out.

March 20, 1989 - MPR’s Bill Wareham profiles new Replacements album. Wareham interviews lead singer Paul Westerberg about the band’s third major label album release, “Don’t Tell a Soul.” Wareham also speaks with John Lassman, music director KQRS, who discusses how single “I’ll be You” and the new album as a whole, are more radio accessible (mainstream) than previous Replacements work.
January 24, 1989 - MPR’s Bill Wareham presents a profile on Minneapolis band The Trashmen. Wareham interviews guitarist Tony Andreason, who discusses the band’s sound and developing its own style. The song “Surfin Bird – Bird is the Word” is highlighted. DJ Bill Deal, is also interviewed about the break out song.
