Association of Cooperatives: As I travel around and talk with my kids I get the feeling that there are some among us are turned off about politics. For a variety of reasons some have chosen not to vote in this election or to participate in the political process. My friends this is a cop out. If you are in disagreement about things in this country don?t sit back and criticize, get involved. If you don?t get a piece of the action, the actions going to get a piece of you.
November 4, 1974 - MPR’s Gary Eichten reports on civil rights & political activist Jesse Jackson’s visit to the Twin Cities for a groundbreaking on an inner city shopping complex, one of first in country conceived and developed by minorities. Jackson is president of group called PUSH (People United to Save Humanity), which encourages minority business ownership.

November 4, 1974 - St. Louis County, Minnesota, is voting on a referendum to determine if they want to hire a county manager, a new position. University of Minnesota Duluth Professor M. Harry Lease headed a study group to determine if the a referendum was needed. Commissioner Floyd Anderson says that position would have too much power and he's not in favor of it.
November 5, 1974 - Senator Hubert Humphrey talks about price fixing in U.S. industry. The grocery chains have had a 125 percent increase in profits. The Federal Trade Commission has not done anything.
November 5, 1974 - Senator Hubert Humphrey says the multi-national oil "cartels" have a strangle hold on the Republican administration. They have removed price controls. John Sawhill's forced resignation from the Federal Energy Commission was because he wanted to change these conditions, says Senator Hubert Humphrey.
November 5, 1974 - Unknown speaker says the U.S. first needs to deal with short-term emergency food aid for Third World countries. However, don't export so much that food prices are driven up here in the U.S. A world food reserve system is needed where costs (probably a billion dollars a year) are shared among other countries, for food for the Third World.
November 6, 1974 - Unknown speaker says bad legislation is now going to be coming out of the House. This news brief is truncated and can only be guessed at ... assume speaker is referring to the Democratic takeover of the House and Senate.
November 6, 1974 - At a DFL press conference, newly-elected Governor Wendell Anderson says he has faith in the two-party system. After the election, the Democratic Party now dominates state politics.
