October 7, 1985 - Keith Bjerke, president-elect of the Greater North Dakota Association and operator of a 3,000-acre farmstead in Northwood, North Dakota, speaking at forum on "The Implications of Consolidated Land Ownership" from the "Food, Farming and the Future" symposium, held at Concordia College in Moorhead. Bjerke shares his views of large land ownership as it relates to agriculture and the production of food.
November 19, 1985 - Lane Kirkland, AFL-CIO president, speaking at Carlson Lecture Series in Northrop Auditorium. Kirkland’s address was on the topic of unions and the American future. Following speech, Kirkland answered audience questions. Kirkland has been appointed to several presidential commissions, including the Presidential Commission to Study Social Security (1983) and the National Bipartisan Commission on Central America (1984). Among the boards he serves on are the American Council on Germany, American Arbitration Association, the Rockefeller Foundation, International Broadcasting, the Council on Foreign Relations, the National Planning Association and the National Endowment for Democracy. The Carlson Lecture Series was established by the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute for Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.

The topic of debate was “Corporate Takeovers: Who Wins? Who Loses?" Irwin Jacobs is a well-known corporate raider. Raymond Plank is the founder and co-chair of Stakeholders in American, a national coalition of CEOs that attempts to counter hostile takeover attempts. Ted Weyerhaeuser, chairman of Minnesota Meeting, moderated. Minnesota Meeting is a non-profit corporation which hosts a wide range of public speakers. It is managed by the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.

January 20, 1986 - Dr. Alice Rivlin, director of economic studies at the Brookings Institution, speaking at Minnesota Meeting. Rivlin’s address is on the topic "Economic Choices 1984." Dr. Rivlin served for eight years as the first director of the Congressional Budget Office, a non-partisan agency of the U.S. Congress, which provides Congress with economic forecasts, budget projections and an analysis of budgetary issues. Dr. Rivlin has been an assistant secretary for planning and evaluation in the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. January 20, 1986 - MPR Journal’s Gary Eichten gets multiple reports on the status of Hormel strike situation in Austin. Striking meatpackers have amassed at gates of Hormel plant in order to disrupt. The company and city have requested the National Guard.
January 20, 1986 - Mike Mulcahy talks about Perpich's decision. Paul Tschida, Public Safety Commissioner, talks about incidents and mounting tension, with some shots fired and several assaults. He says the Guard will not be armed and will not be guarding the Hormel plant.
January 23, 1986 - MPR Journal’s Gary Eichten interviews Paul Karas, an airline industry analyst, about Northwest Airlines acquiring Republic Airways. The deal would make Northwest the third largest airline.
