February 27, 1978 - Clayton Yeutter, attorney and former assistant U.S. agriculture secretary for international affairs and commodity programs during the Nixon-Ford administrations, speaking at Farm Forum, sponsored by the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce. Yeutter topic is on plight of farmer, and his views on solutions.
February 27, 1978 - The Reverend Dr. David Preus, national president of the American Lutheran Church, talks with MPR's John Ydstie during a visit to the Fargo-Moorhead area. Preus expresses his concern with the plight of American farmers, and states there should be a national commitment to preserving small farm communities. The high voltage power lines issue and ethical problems in society are also broached.
July 10, 1978 - As part of an Insight series, MPR’s John Ydstie produces a sound portrait titled “Migrant Series, Part 1.” Ydstie follows the daily life of Guillermo Flores, a migrant worker in the sugar beet fields of rural Minnesota.
September 7, 1978 - MPR’s Dale Connolly reports on worm growing and the complaints of fraud against Worm World, a distributor of the soil creatures. Connolly interviews growers and scientists on their viewpoints.
September 14, 1978 - MPR’s Greg Barron presents the documentary “Power on the Line: The Smoldering Conflict.” Barron spent several days in central Minnesota and produced this searching look at the deep commitment of the opposing sides in the Minnesota power line controversy.
December 14, 1978 - MPR's John Ydstie, of KCCM in Moorhead, and Dan Olson talk with representatives from American Agriculture Movement. Interviews are with Elmo Olson, North Dakota State coordinator; Tom Benson from Appleton, Minnesota; and Minnesota farmer Duane Carlstrom. In 1977, the American Agriculture Movement, a new organization that had originated in the wheat growing areas of Colorado, was spreading across the country organizing tractorcades, cattle blockades at the Canadian and Mexican borders, and other farmer demonstrations to protest the low price for farm products. The American Agriculture members finally took their demonstrations to Washington to make their point to the President, the Congress, and the Secretary of Agriculture.
February 14, 1979 - U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Bob Bergland speaking before a Farm Forum in Minneapolis. Bergland commented on the domestic farm situation. Speech was followed by a question and answer with audience members.
February 28, 1979 - MPR’s Dan Olson interviews Willis Anthony, University of Minnesota agricultural economist, who discusses farming, its future, problems and solutions. MPR’s John Ydstie talks about planting. Program also includes report from MPR’s Jennifer O'Neil on set-aside program.
April 30, 1979 - Sister Thomas More, professor of history at Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, speaking on the history of women in agriculture.
