Minnesota has claim to a wealth of creativity; music is no exception. Almost every genre can be heard within our state’s borders. The results range from a simple act of joy, to an influence that reverberates far beyond (the “Minneapolis Sound” is a prime example). May 6, 2004 - MPR’s Chris Roberts profiles Coach Said Not To, a Minneapolis rock foursome that deliberately tries to defy categorization. Roberts interviews members Lee Violet and Eva Mohn about the thinking person's rock band.
May 13, 2004 - Flyte Tyme, the hit producing Edina-based recording studio run by Jimmy Jam Harris and Terry Lewis, is relocating to Los Angeles. Roberts reports on how the news is being received in the Twin Cities, and the legacy Harris and Lewis are leaving.
May 27, 2004 - MPR’s Dan Olson profiles The Dale Warland Singers as the choral group is ends 32 years of performance. Founder and conductor Dale Warland announced a year ago this was the group's final season. He says he'll devote more time to arranging and composing.
June 2, 2004 - Chris Roberts profiles Venus, a transgender musician and visual artist from Duluth. Roberts interviews the artist, spouse, and Twin Cities filmmaker who follows the band All the Pretty Horses in documentary “Venus of Mars.”
June 10, 2004 - MPR’s Chris Roberts talks with champion air guitarist Jonathan Maki, who shares a few ‘tricks of the trade’ in the art form. Maki is one of the seven finer practitioners in the area to gather at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis for the U.S. Air Guitar Regional Championships.

August 20, 2004 - MPR’s Chris Roberts talks with Minneapolis singer-songwriter Mark Edwards about his CD "Rewind Tomorrow." Formally of The Domo Sound, Edwards now goes by the moniker The Original Mark Edwards.
September 30, 2004 - MPR’s Chris Roberts profiles St. Paul rap act Heiruspecs. MC Felix and Sean McPherson, members of the Midway neighborhood group, talk with Roberts about their CD “A Tiger Dancing” and structure and meaning of the songs on album.
November 13, 2004 - MPR’s Dan Olson reports on the paths of two gifted musicians, who crossed when they moved to the Twin Cities. Both Shulamit Irina Maneev and Yuri Merzhevsky are from the former Soviet Union. They studied separately at the same music school in Russia…and now they play together the classical music they both love.
November 19, 2004 - MPR’s Chris Julin reports on Grand Marais rap group Crew Jones. Julin interviews members Burly Burlesque (Ben Larson), Mic Trout (Sean Elmquist), and Ray Wolf (Rain Elfvin). Julin details the style and local subjects the trio develop and reflect.
