Amy Jean Klobuchar is an American Democrat politician and lawyer, who is currently representing Minnesota in the United States Senate.
Born May 25th, 1960 in Plymouth, Minnesota, Klobuchar first foray into politics was advocating to the Minnesota Legislature on a bill that would guarantee new mothers a 48-hour hospital stay. She later became Hennepin County attorney from 1999 to 2007. Klobuchar was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006, becoming Minnesota's first elected female United States senator, and since reelected in 2012 and 2018. Klobuchar sought the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination from February 2019 to May 2020.
September 25, 2003 - MPR’s Cathy Wurzer interviews Susan Crumb, a community prosecutor in Brooklyn Park. The Hennepin County Attorney's Office hosting a two-day national meeting on Thursday-Friday, September 25-26, with focus on "community prosecution." In 1999, Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar initiated this new approach to crime-fighting. This approach is based on a closer working relationship between prosecutors and the local neighborhoods and communities where crime is occurring. Prosecutors are assigned to work with police, local residents, businesses and others in a specific geographic area to develop strategies for preventing and prosecuting crime, as well as to identify appropriate consequences for those who break the law.
November 25, 2003 - Authorities have dismissed charges against a couple who fled Minnesota after being charged with child abuse in 1984. Edward and Karri LaBois were arrested outside of Salt Lake City earlier this month. Nineteen years ago, the two were accused of abusing their 4-year-old daughter in their home in Minnetonka. Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar says there isn't sufficient evidence to move the case forward.

November 2, 2005 - The Steelworkers Union will support Attorney General Mike Hatch in his race for governor, and Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar in her run for U.S. Senate. Both candidates were in Duluth to accept the endorsements. Amy Klobuchar's family is from the Iron Range; her grandfather worked in the mines. She says the Steelworkers' endorsement carries weight throughout the state.
November 2, 2005 - The Steelworkers Union is backing Attorney General Mike Hatch in his race for governor, and Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar in her run for U.S. Senate.
January 20, 2006 - Minnesota Public Radio's Tom Scheck reports on child advocate Patty Wetterling withdrawing from the U.S. Senate race and endorsing Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar. Wetterling said she made her decision so the DFL party would unite behind Klobuchar. While many political experts are calling Klobuchar the party's clear front-runner, fellow DFLer Ford Bell says he's in the race until the end.
