May 14, 1988 - With the fishing opener arriving in Minnesota, Mainstreet Radio’s Rachel Reabe visits Perch Lake near Brainerd to profile Al Lindner, a professional fisherman who has made quite the splash in the business of fishing.
June 6, 1988 - Mainstreet Radio’s Rachel Reabe reports from the Paul Bunyon Trail north of Brainerd. There are numerous paved bike trails now traversing areas of northern Minnesota, all routed along old railroad tracks. The development of the scenic recreation trails is a boon to both local cyclists and those visiting.
August 20, 1988 - MPR’s Mark Heistad interviews author Thomas Vennum about his book "Wild Rice and the Ojibway People." Vennum discusses the experience of harvesting wild rice and its importance to the Ojibwe People.
January 7, 1989 - Susan Williams provides a review of "Killing Time in Saint Cloud" by Judith Guest and Rebecca Hill. The book is a crime novel about a family who moves to St. Cloud, Minnesota, after the death of their mother.
February 10, 1989 - On this Midday program, a presentation of a Mainstreet Radio documentary on rural homelessness. There are people in rural Minnesota who can't afford to put a roof over their heads and advocates for the poor say rural homelessness is a growing problem.
March 16, 1989 - MPR’s Karen Boros interviews vexillologist Father William Becker about the history and many versions of the Minnesota State flag since its first appearance in an exhibition at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. Becker is asking the Minnesota legislature to consider changing the flag design again…and is providing an option.
May 15, 1989 - Mainstreet Radio’s Rachel Reabe interviews Milton Raske, a resident of Pillager, Minnesota, on his astrological gardening system. He has been planting vegetables for decades based on astrological signs. Agricultural officials do not support moon planting as it is not supported by science, but that doesn’t stop Raske.
August 9, 1989 - MPR’s Kate Smith reports on Minnesota Educational Computing Consortium, also known as MECC, which is being placed up for sale by the state. The corporation has helped Minnesota schools with software at cost, but legislators are looking to sell the company.
